What can I do about an ID theft issue?
Not enought space to type all the details here, but I'll try to be as concise as I can. Is there anyway to find out if there is a phone, bank account, utilities, ect.. in your name that you didn't establish. We just found out someone has been using my wife's name and SS# to get these things. Nothing was showing up on her credit report until the person used the info try for home loan. We called the cops but they wont do anything becuase the person is out of state. We called the local cops there, but they wont do anything unless we sign a complaint in person (they wont accept a fax). We called the phone company and were able to get their phone turned off, but in the process found out they have had service for almost 6 years. How can I make sure they don't just go an establish phone service with someone else? I was also concerned because if they were applying for a loan, that would tell me that they probably have a bank account in my wife's name too. We already put a fraud alert in with TransUnion. I'm not confident this will help as the phone, utilities, and bank don't run a credit check before establishing service. Calling the police was useless, since they are out of state our local police refuse to touch it, and the local police there wont do anything unless we make an in person complaint. What I really want to know is is there is a way I can see if there are any other telephone numbers in her name or utilites. These don't show up on the credit report. Like I said, the only reason we even found out this was going on was that person applied for a loan. This was after using my wife's ID for at least 6 years.

- Call the police thats ur best solution
- no f,u,cki.ng idea on how to help you. sorry. go to the white house
- You can contact any one of the three credit rating agencies (Experian - www.experian.com, TransUnion - www.transunion.com, Equifax - www.equifax.com), and request that a fraud alert be placed on your credit report. If you alert any of the three, the other two will be notified. If you have a fraud alert, it is much more difficult for someone to obtain credit in your name. You'll have to provide all sorts of information that only you would know. This won't help previous damage done, but will prevent anyone from getting any new loans in your name...
- US Information search I interviewed with them one time. Ask for Alan Arnoff and what they do is the take your driver license and they check for anything related to you one woman had 3 different people using her SS# it may be a few hundred $ but it is dam good tell Alan Dan Hogan referred you and he will take special care of you.
- I D Theft is one of the worst cases to deal with, You just can't find enough answers to resolve the issue. As a Police Officer I would tell you to continue to check with the three credit bureaus to make sure something doesn't show up that you were not aware of. If you find something, contact that business or bank to let them know that you did not transact this. You will have to file a report with the proper agency to start an investigation. Every Department has someone working ID theft, it may cause you some inconvenience now, but not as much as it will down the road.
