Could a P.O Box help prevent ID theft?
Public Comments
- It could help because you and whoever you give the other key to can access the box where your mail is.
- Only if you do not have a secured mailbox at your residence. More important is what do you do with your mail AFTER you receive it. Do you make sure that all old bills are destroyed (shredded, burned, made completely unreadable). What do you do with old credit card receipts? Once again - destroy. What do you do with your old income tax papers? Anything that has identifying information (SSN, Drivers License, bank account numbers, credit card numbers) must be destroyed. Check your credit report regularly https://www.annualcreditreport.com - request a different one every 4 months. For example: every February request Experian, every June request TransUnion, every October request Equifax.
