How do you freeze your credit?

I think I just set myself up to be a victim of ID theft, how do I freeze my credit to prevent that from happening? Okay it's not my credit card that might have been stolen it's my name and SS# meaning I don't need to cancel one credit card I need to freeze my credit so no more can be taken out...how do I do that?
