ID Theft

Here is a crazy tax id theft scenario I was told about?

This woman steals another woman's ID worked under her name paid into ss in her name. The thief is in a automobile accident and dies somehow it is report that the woman died to social security. Meanwhile the woman who had her id stolen from the dead woman is a stay at home mom and decides to sell Avon at the end of the year she gets a form from Avon and decides to file taxes, her return is rejected because the IRS tells her she is showing up in the system as deceased. Anyway it's 3 years later and a few thousand in legal fees she thinks it is straightened out only it is not they paid death benefits to the thief's dependents ow she has to straighten that out. I guess I am asking WTF?? This poor woman has been through enough can't they give her a new SSN?? Also this could happen to anyone, we need tougher laws

  1. OK ... um ... so what's your question for us?
  2. " OHHHH WOWWWW" THAT'S SOOOOO SADDDDD!!!!!!!!!
  3. If she has contacted the proper authority there is nothing she really can do but be patient and wait on the F.B.I. I am assuming this is a matter for them being it's fraud and all. She may also be able to sue the family who received the insurance under her name knowing full time well what their child name was and accepting it. Hope things work out for her because sometimes such matters and waiting on the government can take forever.
