  1. Here`s a few to get you started... These AV`s are all free and good. I prefer AVG, been using it for 3 years with no problem. http://www.free-av.com/ http://free.avg.com/ http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-... You also could use some good anti spyware; http://www.superantispyware.com/ http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Ant... You should also download 1 of these programs to warn you of risky websites. http://www.mywot.com/ http://www.download.com/McAfee-SiteAdvis For a good cleaner use this. http://www.ccleaner.com/
  2. Good security requires a multi-layered approach, and the least important layer by far is running some kind of anti-malware program (in fact, if you take care of all the other layers, you don't even need an anti-malware program using up extra resources). In order of importance: 1. Create and use almost exclusively a limited user account instead of the default administrator account Windows sets you up with 2. Read up on social engineering and how to avoid it 3. Don't download illegal copies of software, music, or movies 4. Set Windows updates to install automatically 5. Make regular backups. If possible, back up your entire installation (using Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image)
  3. Norton internet security 2009 dose all that
  4. AVG is the top picked.... because it's the most common free antivirus. However, the detection rates are extremely low compared to other antivirus programs, plus the fact it does not detect rootkits. Kaspersky is one of your best choices for antivirus, Comodo Internet Security is good for it's firewall, and a combination of Malwarebytes and SUPERAntiSpyware is good for everything else.
  5. AntiVir antivirus is currently the best antivirus solution available. Has always been high ranking but is usually at the top of the list.
