ID Theft

where do you report suspected identity theft?

i received a call this Saturday morning, the person claimed to be an attorneys office representing Sears for an overdue bill (which i do have). He questioned me to verify me with my date of birth, address and social security number. (before the request of my ss number, i was told i was shown as an honest person) lol !!! I gave all but the s.s. number. i explained my inability to pay and was told i would be contacted with a suit and he hungup. It didn't hit me until later, this may have been a scam. Who do I call or contact to report my suspicions? The number on my caller id was UNKNOWN NAME 301-882-9977 Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Call the police right now !
  2. Yeah call the cops ASAP.
  3. You call the police. I would also call the company the person said htey represented to a) see if they did call you, and b) to tell them that someone has got information off them (i.e. that you owe them money, your name etc.) which could mean a breach of security on their part, or breach of the data protection act.
