How do I protect against possible id theft on a rental credit check?
If I have to provide a SS# for the credit check how do I know the landlord will protect the info from possible loss?

- You should ask them what their policy is regarding your confiential information in their files. If you aren't comfortable with it, I suggest you provide them with a copy of your credit history. Of course, you need to ask them if they will accept that.
- Unfortunately there are no guarantees, which is why you should monitor your credit report periodically. Join a site like www.privacyguard.com that will send you alerts if anything changes on your report, so you can take the necessary actions.
- The reason you protect your social security number is because it is the number used to organize and find all your credit information. A person or company giving you credit (or providing a product such as allowing you to rent a house) will always need to pull up your credit history using your social security number. I would ask them how they will be protecting my information. They should have a plan for shedding and destroying the information at some point (and storing it in a safe place until that date).
- ask them what their policy is? more thank likely if u supply ur current credit history ran by yourself they will more than liley accept it. most places keep that information confidentail and filed.
