Do credit cards offer extra protection for items purchased?
I bought my brother a laptop 2 days ago and 14 hours after having it, he was ripped off at a library with it (snatched right in front of him and the kid booked). We were told to call the credit card to see if there's a protection program that might cover the theft. I purchased it with Discover and they said they don't offer that sort of protection. If I were to buy another one with a Visa or Mastercard, would that make ANY difference?

- Some credit cards do offer that kind of protection, some don't. the only way to know for sure is to call your credit card company to find out.
- i not sure but i dont think so,most only protect against fraud, but you can claim off your home insurance.
- I am pretty credit card savvy but I can't say that I'm familiar with the features of Discover. However had a similar thing happen when a MacBook was destroyed after purchase with a Master Card. There really isn't much covered by the card for the product. They only offer things to protect the card itself and not the items bought using the card. Its best to check extra coverage with the company you buy the laptop from.
- The answer is maybe... You'll have to read the fine print of your credit card agreement.
