how safe are credit protection companies or id protection companies?

I am considering getting an id protection company but I just wnted to hear peoples opinion on them, do they make any difference, and are they safe?

1. good idea to ask us first. credit protection can be like insurance coverage in that it may look good on paper, but you will only know how good it really is when you have a claim. get multiple opinions on multiple companies and look for a pattern.
