- allegedly, all they need is your name. If they can search your personal details online, they can compile more about your identity, they can get your birthday, your address, your name, how many kids are in your family, your mothers maiden name. basically, tey can find out lots about you, and enough information to answer any security questions you have set up. They ring up pretending to be you, they say "I cant remember my password/account number etc..." the person on the phone says "can you answer this security question - what is your mothers maiden name? what school dod you go to? etc" then they can do what they like with your cash.
- It's possible they could make an attempt to register online as you. But they would need more info, like a bank account number. Most banks have greater security controls to prevent a phony. The real danger comes when you personally create log in user names and password... and then someone gets that data. Oh Boy.
- Well, today banks have a lot of security especially phone wise, everytime I call to know my balance they need my mothers maiden name, or a special 4 num. code only you know. You can change your passwords now and then in your computer But if youre sure that somebody has stolen information or has made bad use of your ssno. report it to the social sec. office, make a police report, and call the 3 credit reporting agencies. If youre sure, if not just keep a lookout for suspicious charges in credit cards.
