looking for a credit monitoring company who also gives tips on credit repairs.?

i have bad credit and have been trying to repair it for the past few months. Im looking for a credit agency that will help me repair it or a credit monitoring company that will give me tips on repairing it (not too expensive). so far i've been thinking about creditkeepers.com or paying more to use lexingtonlaw.com. Does anyone have information reguarding these companies or have tried others that you would recommend?

  1. Be very careful with companies who promise to be able to repair your credit. In the UK adverse information remains on your file for 6 years I believe its 7 years in America. There is no way to get this information deleted no matter what promises a company makes. Depending on the information on your file you will remain in the sub prime market for a while. The only thing to do is ensure any existing credit is run well and payments made on time, this shows potential lender you can now pay back credit. Second is to ensure any debts are paid and cleared in full. Don't give money to companies who promise to improve your credit file all they do is take your money and wait for the file to repair itself by waiting for the information to fall off. They may also make applications to high risk lenders with high interest rates. Really to improve your score the less searches the better as too many searches lowers your score - tolerances for searches vary company to company.
  2. Stay away from the credit repair places. Most of them will take you for a ride or damage your credit more. 1) The best way to improve your credit is to pay your bills on time and pay old delinquent accounts that have not been charged off. 2) There are minor tricks you can do to improve scores slightly. (eg. moving balances around so that your credit utilization on any given card is not higher than 50%) 3) Try a site like creditkarma.com. You can get a freecredit score anytime. I suggest pulling your score once a month.
