Identity Theft Rant?

Does anyone else find this ironic? We’re constantly being told about identity theft; “Buy Identity Theft Insurance, Shred Your Mail, Only Use Secure Website, Lock Your File Case, Hide Your Children Under The Bed, and For Gods Sake Don’t Go Out After Dark!” OK I exaggerated on that last part but you get my point. Despite all these warnings and thousands of cases of identity theft every year, our credit card companies and banks still send out our statements every month with our card numbers plastered all over it. We know our numbers, why not print just the last four if someone has multiple accounts? Even when I sign up for paperless billing they still find some other reason to mail me something with—yet again—my numbers plastered all over it! Anyone else find this ironic? Could this be a conspiracy?

  1. Good point! It's expensive for companies to change their practices, so although it would protect consumers, it would cost the companies money. They don't care if we are victims of fraud b/c of their practices, so i don't think we'll see a change anytime soon....
