ID Theft

are online credit report monitoring sites reliable and secure?

I want to protect against identity theft and recently received an unsolicited credit card. It makes me question whether someone tried to obtain credit in my name.

  1. maybe/maybe not. call your bank or credit card company to see if they provide that service. American Express does. I've used them successfully for years. Good luck!
  2. I would go to your local bank, and see if they have a trial credit report program you can sign up for... Ive done that twice with my bank, signed up for a free 30 day credit monitoring service... after 30 days its like 70 bucks a month or something retarded... So i cancelled on like 20th day after I obtained my report... Its really kinda dumb, banks should offer free identity monitoring service... Not charge you to make sure someone isnt stealing your money which the bank is already holding for you. One website ive also used which has a trial in which you can sign up and quit to avoid the fee, is http://www.freecreditreport.com/
  3. Do not give them any information. that's asking for trouble. I was victim of identity theft once and it took almost 10 years to clean it all up. USE CAUTION. JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE PARANOID, DOESN'T MEAN IT WON'T HAPPEN TO YOU.-words to live by. trust me.
