Providian/wa mu credit card with credit score monitoring.?

Ok. with the online access you get updating monthly credit scores from transunion. On the website it said my credit score was 644 but when I pulled my transunion credit report and score it said 616. now obviously I believe the credit report over the credit card website. but has anyone had this issue before. do you know if they estimate it or if it is correct and not updated as quickly. also do you think 2yrs is enough time to bring my credit up to Good status>?

  1. I also have this service but found out that the scores are not always the same as listed by the credit reporting agencies. The best is to pay a monthly fee for a daily updated credit report from a reputable company. Scores change often and not always the same on all three agencies. Hope this answers your question.
  2. The WaMu site does give you your real credit score (FICO score). FICO is the score most lenders use. 2 possibilities for the different scores: 1) TransUnion also has their own credit score called VantageScore. This is similar to FICO, but not the same. If you bought the VantageScore from TransUnion, it will be different than your FICO score. 2) There was a time lag between the 2 credit scores. WaMu updates your score once a month. Something could have happened to your score between the last WaMu update and when you got your score from TransUnion. 2 years is plenty of time to raise a credit score significantly. I raised mine from 700 to 815 in 2 years. Here are some tips: 1) ALWAYS pay on time! 2) Pay down your credit cards. Keeping a high balance on a card is very detrimental to your score. Keeping a $0 balance is best. 3) Don't apply for new credit (including store cards) unless you absolutely need it. Your score goes down every time you request new credit. 4) Don't cancel your older cards even if they have high rates. Simply stop using them. The older your cards, the better they are for your score. **But feel free to cancel them if they have a yearly fee. Doing all of those well should raise your score to around 700 by the end of 2008, perhaps 750 by the end of 2009. You'll be amazed how much money that will save you on interest and car insurance (car insurance is much cheaper when you have good credit). Best of luck with your credit future!
