How can I obtain credit monitoring due to fraud.?
My wallet was stolen and my ID taken. Several attempts have already been made to obtain unautorized credit. I cancelled all existing credit cards, bank account, etc. but other methods are being used. Is there any agency who monitors a persons credit activity- new account attempts? Suggestions?

- You should contact all of the credit bureaus to alert them of your loss so that fraudulent activity does not occur. Equifax, transunion, and experian.
- Sunnydaze is correct. The credit reporting companies will place a "fraud alert" on your records. In the event someone tries to get credit, your credit report will alert the business of possible fraud. They are required to contact you personally to get any new credit authorized. That is about the only protection you have. If a business gives someone credit, and fails to do a credit check or call you, that business will end up eating the loss. That's one of the risks of giving out credit to someone. If an attempt has already been made to steal your identity, you will need to file a police report. This will be needed in the event a company tries to come after you for fraud. It will then be a simple matter to send a letter to that business and get him to lay off. Note that many police departments are still not up to speed on what to do about ID Theft and may not want to give you a report. INSIST THAT THE DO! Go to the link below for more information. Good luck...I've been there.
