ID Theft

I rented out my car and the person has default payment. 2 cheques were dishonoured. What can I do?

I was posted overseas and I rented out my private car to someone called Mr A. It has been 2 months and I have received 2 cheques for payment but were rendered as Dishonoured Cheques. First occassion for wrong name, second occassion due to Mr A's Bank Account has been closed. Payments have not been received thus far. There was a Rental Agreement prepared and signed by Mr A and myself. I also have photocopies of Mr A's ID Card and driving licence. Till date, I am unable to contact Mr A. What can I do to retrieve payment? Any problem if I submit claims to Insurance Company for theft as my vehicle was fully insured?

  1. Notify the police and yes report it to insurance right away.
  2. Hmmm, this sounds like theft to me. You're in a bad spot, mate. Are you still overseas?
