Can I buy a car in CA for my fiance stationed in CA but have PA insurance for it because of my other car?

My fiance is a Marine and is in CA. We wanted to buy a car for him to use since at some point in the future i plan to move out there from PA anyways since we are getting married in Nov 07. We got a much better rate if I buy it by myself since I have awesome credit and his isn't as good at the moment due to id theft, but now i need to get insurance for it. I already have a policy in PA for my current vehicle. If it is registered in CA what do I do?

  1. The insurance MUST be in the same state as the vehicle registration. So you must either get CA insurance or register the car in PA. Based on your situation just get insurance in CA.
  2. You can buy a separate policy for it from the same company if they operate in CA. If not, you'll need to find another insurance company.
  3. As long as he is active military you can register and insure the car in PA. In the state of california military personel have a wavier for this so you can buy the car in CA and register and insure it in PA or you can also do it in the state that he claims as his home base. You can even buy the car out of state and bring it into calif and it only has to pass the smog rules of the home state. Good Luck
