- AR means accounts receivable. If they are checking your credit then I would contact them and ask them why. It could be nothing more than them checking to see if financially your up to date. Sometimes when you open an account (even credit cards) you are giving them permission to periodically pull your credit. Just call them to be sure, good luck
- You can look them up in the Yellow Pages or google them. Try the BBB as well. Usually company names are listed. No one can garnish your wages without a judgement, which means you would need to go to court. If you don't know who these people are and they are on your credit report. The credit agencies have to remove. You write them and tell them you have no idea who these people are. On the other hand, you still want to find out. If you are a victim of credit theft, there could be other things going on you don't know about. http://www.ficocounselors.com
- I would send them a letter asking them why they ran your credit. To whom it may concern: As per my xxxx credit report, xxxx my credit file on 6/26/07. I don't recall applying for mployment with xxxx, and per my telephone conversation with xxxxx on 07/xx/2007, my account is in good standing. From the FCRA § 616. Civil liability for willful noncompliance [15 U.S.C. § 1681n] "(b) Civil liability for knowing noncompliance. Any person who obtains a consumer report from a consumer reporting agency under false pretenses or knowingly without a permissible purpose shall be liable to the consumer reporting agency for actual damages sustained by the consumer reporting agency or $1,000, whichever is greater." From the 1998 FTC opinion letter Greenblatt at http://www.ftc.gov/os/statutes/fcra/greenblt.htm: "Any person who procures a consumer report under false pretenses, or knowingly without a permissible purpose, is liable for $1000 or actual damages (whichever is greater) to both the consumer and to the consumer reporting agency from which the report is procured." Please explain your permissible purpose for your obtaining my credit file. Should you not have a permissible purpose, please have this inquiry removed from my credit file and evidence of deletion mailed to me. Sincerely, Definitely follow up on this. They may have a permissible purpose, but if so, they need to let you know what it is.
