Does anyone have the new ID theft insurance life lock? How well does it work? I'm scared of ID theft and want to get insurance for it but is it worth it?
Id Theft...? Hi all...Quick Q here...Awhile ago my ID was hacked and password stolen and I couldnt retrieve it. Now this was a long time ago. I just sent that account an email hoping the person got bored with it and would return it to me but it bounced back saying it was disabled/discontinued. However I went to member directory and the password is still there. Does this mean the account has timed out since the profile is still up?
What to do about a relative who does ID Theft? Ok, my "real" mother commits id theft on a regular basis. Now I know she does this for a fact, she's stolen my identity once and has several ssn's and names she uses. She also is a big drug addict and also abuses the welfare system. I want to know how can I go about turning her over to the police. She also owes back child support as well to me (well my dad) that she never paid. Its like 8-10 years worth. How can I go about getting something done for that? I'm still in school, i'm 24.
Why are these illegals deported and not charged with ID theft? Should credit card companies and retail stores foot the bill on ID theft? The answers to ID theft are simple. I feel that credit card companies need to ID people they give credit to, stores need to ID people using credit cards, online stores need to call back the person using the card to verify user. Why should the credit card holder foot the bill when it is bad people out there using their numbers and rich minded credit card companies and stores willing to help steal from many? Recently increasing ID theft, I want to freeze or shut down on my credit report>Do you know how to do that ? Since I go back to school, I don't take any loans except for student loan which doesn't require credit report. I read a recently article on WSJ on last Saturday about ID theft. It said you can pay a fee (about $10) to get a freeze shut down access to your credit report, meaning no new credit lines can be opened unless you OK it by requesting again. But it doesn't provide any website or phone number to make that happens . Any thought??

Need help from a computer geek: how can I return broken Hard Drive without risk of ID theft? I bought an external hard drive to backup my computers. But after only three weeks, it won't power up. ID theft question: what happens to people who use your credit card number? I recently had my information stolen and used to make purchases costing, in total over $200. I was able to get the perpetrator who turned out to be my neighbor. I filed a police report, the bank and VISA are processing fraud reports so I will be credited. But, here is where i'm confused: I got the detail of the perp by asking one of the companies in dispute what address was used and by whose name. It wasnt mine except for the credit card number. Therefore, this is only based on evidence shown by the company and not some investigation. Anyone can use an address and a fake name of someone but still use your credit card numbers to make purchases. In other words, it may not really be the neighbor. Put another way - my neighbor, in addition to myself, are victims of ID theft: their address but my numbers were used. Does the FBI take on these cases where total loss is only 200 dollars? Advice? Suggestions? Answers?

ID theft? what could be wrong? ok today i got a call from dishnetwork asking for a MR.(name). i told them they had the wrong number again. this is the 5th time this has happend. it seems to happen once a month or so. each time they call they ask for a differant person and i tell them i have had this number for over a year. one time they asked if i wanted to subscribe to dishnetwork and i told them i was allready subscribed to them. well technically my father is but i seem to be the only one who ever watches. the lady this time said she would put my number on a do not call list. i have called back their number and it takes me to the dishnetwork call machine thing. so could dish network be doing this on purpus? is it ID theft? any ideas?

I have been charged w/ ID Theft...? I had a fake id that an old friend made me a long time ago, its not a good 1, and he waz jst "trying" to impress me w/ it or whatever.. i had put it in an older wallet that i started using again, and got pulled over and cops found it.. I have never used it for anything at all, just had it, 4got bout it, until they found it.. Another thing that makes this even worse, i had found a social security card in a parking lot also, a while back-picked it up for no other reason than to mail it to the dept.to get it back to owner,ect... i also 4got i even had this, until the cops found it.. i realize this does not look good, but is there anything i can do..?? i have been charged with Id theft, (felony) Can they really charge me w/this if i have never used them for anything, or had any attempt to.?or am i pretty much screwed cuz the were in my possess.? what also does not help me is i do have a criminal history, NO theft charges of any kind, drug possn charges in 1996-1998(felony) help pls...??

plea bargain: no contest to ID theft. Recd 18 mos probation. Need legal advice from LAWYERS? I have no other criminal history besides this one ID theft conviction and have served over 1/2 my probation time. I was told by the dept of corrections that I could file to get off early from probation so long as I stayed out of trouble. I have been a model citizen since then so I asked my lawyer to file that motion. (along w/asking to reduce the felony conviction to a misdemeanor, as the amount in question was less than $700). Now the DA is saying that since I signed a plea deal indicating I was agreeing to a felony conviction and 18 mos probation, I shouldn't even be filing the motion. The DA has threatened to re-indict me on all the other charges (which were dismissed as part of the plea deal) if I continue w/the motion. IS THIS LEGAL? ISN'T THIS A VIOLATION OF MY CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS?

Need serious help with ID theft? hello, everyone. I am going through a ID theft crisis. Someone has gotten tickets in my name, cable, hospital bills, phones, and the most recent one is they worked in my name. The main problems is that i have a fraud alert and everything. Yet nothing seems to work at first. And what really makes me mad is when it's taken care of I don't hear back from the companies or anything. But then the fraud comes back 2-3 months down the line. And to make it worst, it's never happens in the city I live in? Someone please give me an answer?? PLEASE HELP?

trying to get divorced,have full custody of daughter,she has used id theft for yrs. only married 1 or 2 yrs? when i caught her in my bed w/ daughter watching tv & i came home early. Can I still prosecute someone in VA or MD for id theft that occured over 4 years ago? I knew the culprit, he attacked my social and my spouses. This was over 4 years ago. Is their some sort of statue or time frame that keeps me from prosecuting him and her (his new spouse) today? He has come forward and paid all the debt to me and my current spouse. The problem is, I also have a child with him. How will this affect her? Is ID theft a misdemeanor or felony and will there be jail time? I was divorced 6 yrs. ago, and now my ex is pressing charges of ID Theft? we were still married when I opened an account under his name with his permission, is this considered ID Theft. I don't have proof that he gave me permission, so should I be concerned....being that we were still married?
My ex got a home phone with my SSN and the $82 debt is on my credit report.Is this id theft even tho is $82? I don't know where to go cause the phone co. won't help and the local police wants me to travel to where this happened and file a report. I'm in VA, this happened in Puerto Rico!! The PR police says it's not Id theft but he may still use my info and I won't know until it shows on my report!! It's $82 now, but what if it's more later on? I notified the credit agency and is "under investigation". I know id theft is a felony, but does it have to be thousands of dollars in order for the police to do something? I feel ashamed when I tell them the quantity because I don't think they're taking me seriously, and even tho I can pay the $82 I won't because I believe that even if the debt is 25 cents, it wasn't me and I shouldn't have to pay it, you know? (luckily nothing can be opened on my credit..as i have no credit anyways) I get denial of credit letters daily..and ive been denied NUMEROUS jobs...I recently recieved a copy of my backround check which states ive been convicted of a misdimeanor when i know for sure i havent..BUT i know a woman who used to run around my town posing as me (using my name/DOB/looks identical to me..i have no siblings) is it possible SHE is causing my troubles on my backround? ive reported her before to Police..and they couldnt do anything... HELP i need a job! Can i legally change my SS #? will it help? will it stop this crap? im not worried about losing anything..i dont have any credit anyways.
ID Theft victim legal rights? I am an identity theft victim, but my claim has been denied by Bank of America over and over and over. I have filed a police report and everything. I haven't paid those charges and they keep piling on late fees and posted 5 damaging reports on my credit report. What are my options at this point? What can I do about my now-bad credit report? ID Theft and Fraud? Okay, me and my guest went to Don Pablos for dinner, our meal was a total of $20.71, i left no tip for the first time in my life because our waitress was absolutely the worst. Well, a few days later i check my bank statement saying by meal was for $48.71. I went to the restauraunt, the waitress left herself a 27 dollar tip on my exspense, the manager gave me a 1 800 number to don pablos cuz she said she cant help me, also she only gave the waitress a warning! It is unreal that she did not get fired, she committed theft! i was wondering if i could take judical actions against the waitress and the company for not being able to provide me with a reciet or any documentation and only giving her a warning.

Kind of ID theft/ what to do? I was told recently that my sister who lives in Minnesota is using my name when she gets pulled over or is questioned by the police in any way. I live in Florida. I contacted a town in North Dakota where I know she used my name. And they set it up so that when my name is ran it shows up as her possibly using my name. I also contacted the the town in minnesota where she lives and they told me to contact the state office. I talked with someone from the state office and she said there's nothing I/they can do. Now, I would think that she could not be arrested under my name unless she has fake ID. Which I do not beleive she does. Should I be worried? Is there anything else I can do?
Avoiding ID theft? I am very concerned about Identity theft, given my young age and excellent credit. These are the steps I have taken to insure my good name: - checked my credit report (I'm getting "free trial offers" every few months to determine the best permanent service) - called the opt-out number so I don't get offers in the mail - using online banking to avoid a paper trail. Is there anything else recommended? Anything in particular that I should avoid doing? Yes, we do have a paper shredder...Mom bought one a few weeks ago. I intend to put it to good use tomorrow.

Please help! Possibly an ID theft victim? So I got a letter in the mail today from some collective agency, Mitchell N. Kay, P.C. demanding that I pay some "outstanding balance of $376.51 on some T-Mobile account that I've never even had. Right away, I knew this was some kind of scam but it gets worse. I called up the toll free number on the letter and spoke to a representative to ask what this crap was and apparently someone had opened a T-Mobile account under my name. So right away, I was afraid that I'm a victim of identity theft. I was desperate at the time so I asked the guy what to do and he suggested I file a police report and fax it to a number he had given me. Several minutes later, I googled the name "Mitchell N. I'm determined to get to the bottom of this and file that police report. But should I still fax to that number even though I feel suspicious now?
What if someone tries to falsely accuse me of ID theft? Last year, my ex mother in law was living with me. To make a long story short she opened several accounts for me in her name, a couple with me as a 2nd card holder. Now she came this summer and we had a falling out. She has been known to be a very vindictive person. I have been told by a family member that is gouing to accuse me of identity theft. A guy i know guessed my School ID PW and got access to my Transcripts and took a pic of them, is that ID Theft And will I have a case in a court of law for him getting access to my account at school from him guessing my Password, nothing was charged to any account, but he got into the file, didn't do anything and also got into my AIM account, can he be charged by the FBI for Identity Theft? He guessed my password just from the stuff he knew about me since we were friends. He didn't do anything with it except IM some of my friends on my Aol Instant Messanger list and take a screen shot of my transcript. Can I press charges against him or can the FBI take over this case and file charges against him?

Do you Agree that INS should be sued for recent Immigration Raids and charging them with ID theft? This just came on CNN. Identity theft is a felony. Still antagonists of legal immigration say they have rights. They also claimed they had no regards for babies left at the babysitters or other family members. If they were not Legal immigrants should they have taken them too or had a bus waiting for them to deport them? What do you say? Send those comments to CNN and those slanting the news to that of racism!
ID Theft Help? I don't want to write out every last detail, so I will try to make this as short as possible. I am a 20 year old woman that is very concerned about her credit. I checked my credit report about a month or so ago and noticed that I had some accounts that I did not open myspace. Upon further investigation I found that my own mother was putting my name on her stuff without my permission and making me have delinquent accounts. My mom left me when I was 12 to run off with her boyfriend at the time and has only came to see me twice in the 8 years that she has been gone. I called her and asked her respectively to set it straight, but she hung up in my face and will no longer answer my calls. Does anyone have advise for me on what to do and contact information for someone that could help me in this case?.....Oh, I already have a Fraud Alert on my report......

I have the same ssn as someone else (same date of birth same name except middle name is diffrent, not ID theft It isnot identity theft I have contacted this person, I can't enroll in school using a grant because she has grants and loans, I have learnned I was issued the ssn years before she was issued it. And the social security office has been giving me the run around on this. I have trouble getting jobs, it looks like I'm lieing on my apps when I state places I have worked or schools I've attened. ID theft by illegal immigrants? Let me explain this where everyone can unsterstand. 1. an illegal immigrant obtains a social security card/number that belongs to someone else. 2. They use this # to work in the country 3. Taxes are paid in, plus it shows that income was received(not by the actual person, but by the illegal) The person that this S/S # belongs to filles their taxes, but it is kicked back because of the income it shows they received but didn't report due to the illegal immigrant using it. How hard is it to clear that type of mess up and can anything be done to the employer of the illegal, or the illegal his or herself. How can you find out if someone else is using your social security number. I know this is alot of questions all rolled up into one and I hope I explained it where everyone can understand it.
